Job Hunting Sucks

I like staying at home all day but sometimes you just want to do SOMETHING. I can't wait for tomorrow where I don't have to wake up on a schedule other than bake some cupcakes. Sorry- Random Side ramblings.

****

I don't know if I am really that invested in working. For the past few days, I have been calling and emailing corporate.
-Rite Aid
-CVS
-Shaws Osco
-Walgreens
-Target
- Did I miss anywhere else? Because if I have, then let me know.

This bites.
There was this other job opportunity but it has nothing related to pharmacy. I was going to try interviewing at BCNC which has a youth center to be a counselor. It's better than nothing? But I really want to work at a pharmacy.

If this continues- I seriously might consider working at a Burger King. No joke.

I need money.

Couch Potato

So I am done with everything.
NO MORE SCHOOL or ROTATIONS!!!!
(until Sept).
I am kind of Sleepy. But I don't want to Sleep. It's so hard to just sit still and relax. I want to but then I feel like I am wasting my days.
Just been walking around the area and looking for places to work. It's a bit hard because the store tells me they need interns but when they direct me to apply to the recruiters at corporate, Corporate says no.
Just been sitting here, applying online all day long.

If it happens great. If not- then I will most likely seclude myself home all day long and be a couch potato.

Went to visit Skid (bf family's dog). He just got out of an operation so paid him a little visit to cheer him up.

Mocha and Skid didn't get along very well.
She ignored him completely and tried to hide under the table because she knew Skid couldn't.

Public Health Rotation:Showcase

I bet you it was David that took this picture to confirm how much of a STAFF I am not.
Still got a YES Tshirt though which is AWESOME!

Tuesday: SHOWCASE DAY!

Even though I didn't have to work until 10am, I volunteered myself to an 830am morning meeting. It was for youth counselors throughout Boston to become aware of the "Save the Harbor/Save the Bay" cause. It is a 25 year old program in which they offer free boat rides to Spectacle Island which is actually a man-made island and sponsors youth programs to educate how important it is help protect our environment. This cause has also helped make our beaches of South Boston and Dorchester Bay the cleanest urban beaches in America.

Went back to YES to prepare for the showcase at 5pm. Had to help make 2 TriBoards- Teens Going Healthy, and No Tobacco World Day and organize and move around furniture.

The Showcase had a huge turnout. I don't think I've seen so many ongoing programs at YES with so many youths involved. I am pretty amazed because there wasn't as much opportunities for me when I was here but I am glad that it is going towards a positive uphill climb.

Public Health Rotation Day 1

They are totally using me to my fullest capacity! I was busy from the first steps I took to the last.
But I don't mind it because it does bring back memories. It's nice to see how far this organization has grown from the little dinky Chinatown 4 floor apartment to a temporary trailer to what is it today.

-Leading ATKIDs ( Asian Teens Keeping It Dry) in a brainstorm session to make pledge cards for the liquor stores and restaurants that have compiled and supported their initiative of not serving to minors since 2008.
-Made a Poster board for tomorrow's (June 14th) Y.E.S. first ever SHOWCASE! The board is for the 'Teens Going Healthy' group.
-Confirming with 2 different groups for our Shoulder Tap.

Tomorrow is the showcase which was a nice surprise because I thought it was last week but they pushed it to tomorrow. I am excited to be apart of it.  The fund-ers, supporters, as well as people from the Mayor's and Senator's office were invited. It is a big event that is hosted by the kids of YES to show what teens as young as 13 have accomplished for the Chinatown Community. :)

I FINALLY -after 10 years- got a T-Shirt.
Not experienced enough as a STAFF or young enough to be a kid
. Just the middle- THE INTERN.

Happy 25th to Maria!
It felt like everyone's bday since we all got gifts!
Sanrio's Silly bands from Bek
John Frieda Hair Repair from Maria
Love photo frame from Lici

Now we all have a piece of the puzzle!

Forgot to mention: When I woke up this morning, I got a surprise in the closet.
He took out all my shoes from the boxes and made a place for them. :)

Rotations 101 pt2

Update from week 3:
-Got a chance to do a counseling session about Epi-Pens and Nitrostat.
-SOAP case on constipation and increasing your fiber
-putting in new insurances and calling insurances, clarifying doctor's RX.

Wish I did have a chance to do more counseling and doctor calls but seriously the last three days were super slow and there was nothing going on.

-the last day was pretty fun. It was a bit more relaxed and the technician Ann made me a going away cake!
Chocolate brownie cake with cream cheese and marble

Overall I really liked working there  because of the staff and the customers. I am still on the lookout to working at any pharmacy that uses the same software so it would be easier for me to just transition with minimal training.

Now its one more week doing my Public Health Rotation. I actually had to do a lot of work for it. Hopefully it will pay off.

In other news:
It's official!

Rotations 101

Update from Week 1:
So it was a bit of a slow start for me to do Intern assignments such as doctor calls and drop off.
The first day was mostly learning the computer system EnterpriseRX which is REALLLLLYYY SLOW. After a few days- I got the hang of it and am totally comfortable doing drop off and data entry-ing new RX. Not sure about entering new insurances because many of the patients are regulars and almost everyone has the same insurance plan so it's not too difficult.

I was bummed at first because I had asked the Pharmacist on duty ( NOT my preceptor) if I could do doctor calls and she said she wasn't comfortable with it and that technicians aren't allowed.
First of all- I AM NOT a technician and made her aware of that.
Secondly- I did appreciate her honest opinion and I am glad she isn't my preceptor because then I would just be on product dispensing all day long and not learning anything.

I used to work at CVS and that was what I did all day long. I am ready to spread my wings and do everything else to prepare myself for the real pharmacy world!

I realized that my preceptor didn't work the regular 9 to 5 Mon to Fri schedule so I tried to work with him as much as possible. This resulted in awesome two day breaks in the middle of the week( LIKE TODAY!) but it led me to working from this Friday straight onto next Friday ( last day of rotations!) to make up to 40 hours a week.

My preceptor is a pretty cool guy. Very smart and is always willing to help. He always encourages me to ask questions and when I do- even if there are patients waiting or phone calls ringing, he is patient with me and makes sure that I understand. Everyone that I worked here are pretty nice and is a good teacher. Makes me want to work at a Price Chopper back at home or ever here BUT too bad the Price Choppers in my hometown are GHETTOOOO.

UPDATE from Week 2
Since it was Memorial Day on Monday- I had no work! The school gang had a outdoor BBQ where we got bug bites everywhere. Out of all the places- look where the bug had to bite me!

Since my workweek was short this week, I just have to play catch up with paperwork. I also got to spend some quality time with Kitlina ( Kitty-Selina Combo).

I spoke to my preceptor and I got to do a total of 3 Doctor calls! Lame- I know. Wish I could do more but I can't take any if its super busy because the Preceptor needs to hear and see me do it. And doctor calls usually happens in the morning and afternoon when its always busy anyway.

ttyl!
